Key of b flat9/8/2023 ![]() ![]() The I IV V chords are therefore F major, Bb major and C major. The notes of the F major scale are F, G, A, Bb, C, D and E. C major, F major and G major are therefore your primary or I IV V chords. The first note is C, the fourth note is F and the fifth note is G. The notes of the C major scale are C, D, E, F, G, A and B. Let’s take the C major scale as an example. A major scale has 7 notes, simply pick notes, 1, 4 and 5 to form your chords. As long as we know the major scale, it’s easy to know what the I IV V chords are. How are these chords formed? Let’s start with major keys. In this piano lesson, we will take a look at primary chords in all keys: 12 major and 12 minor keys. Primary chords are also called I IV V or i iv V chords (say “one four five”) because of the fact that they are based on the 1st, 4th and 5th notes of a major or minor scale. My #1 Recommendation: Go here to learn about the BEST piano/keyboard course I’ve seen online. You can start with primary chords in the easier keys like C major, F major, G major, and their relative minor keys, A minor, D minor and E minor. Start with primary and after you have learned them, only then should you move to other chords. In fact, many songs can be played with just these 3 important (most commonly used) chords. You absolutely have to know these chords. In every key, there are 3 chords which are the most important chords. Primary chords are perhaps the first type of chords that you should learn as a beginner. ![]()
